Format of Play: All divisions except Upper Advanced Mixed Doubles will play Round Robin format. Upper Advanced Mixed Doubles will play a Double Elimination Bracket format.
Round Robin Divisions will play each opponent one or more times in a single game to 11 win by 2 (or first team to 15 win on serve) to determine final ranking. Ranking will first be determined by number of Wins, then by point differential.
First Place and Second Place will play in the Gold Medal game, Third Place and Fourth Place (if 4th exists) will play in the Bronze Medal game. All Medal Matches will be first to 15 win by 2 no score limit.
Double Elimination Bracket divisions, will play a single game to 11 must win by 2 (or first team to 15 win on serve) against a committee seeded team in the first round, winners will proceed into the next round and losing teams will drop to the elimination bracket for additional rounds, again playing a single game to 11 win by 2 (or first team to 15 win on serve). Teams are eliminated from the tournament when they have lost 2 games.
The Final team eliminated from the main bracket will move to the elimination bracket and play the final winner of the elimination bracket. The winning team from that game will advance to the Gold Medal match and will play the final winning team from the main bracket. The final losing team in the elimination bracket will be the Bronze medal winner. In the event the team from the main bracket loses their first game in the Gold A medal game an additional Gold B game will be played to determine the Gold and Silver Winners (Double Elimination). The Gold, Silver, and Bronze games will be a single game to 15 must win by 2 no score limit.
USAPA 2025 rules will be used as guidance for the tournament. Generally, teams will call their own scores, line calls and faults unless disagreements cannot be resolved.
All Medal rounds will have a scorekeeper and line judges to call faults, but teams will still call their own line calls. Line judges will be used for appeals only. You can view and/or download the USAPA Rulebook here!
Additional Rules:
1) CHECK-IN Time is 30 minutes or more before your start time. There will be a brief orientation on the tennis court before the start of play.
2) FORFIET will be declared for any team or player that is 10 minutes or more late for the start of their game. Whether it is the scheduled start or revised start due to quick or slow play that changes the scheduled start times.
3) TIME OUTS: There will be 1 1-minute time out allowed for each team in each game of the tournament. Medical time-outs will be allowed for any physical injury during a game. If the player is unable to return to the game after 15 minutes the team will be retired and forfeit the game as per USAPA Rulebook. The score at the time of injury will be recorded and if the winning team is retired, the losing team will be given additional points to make their score 2 points higher than the retired team. If the losing team is retired, and the winning team is 2 or more points ahead, the score will stand, if less than two points ahead, additional points will be added to make them two points ahead of the retired team.
4) DETERMINING Serve, Side at start of game: The finger(s) behind the back system will be used to determine the team that selects either serve or receive, then the other team will pick their starting side of the court. The system: a member if one team will hold a hand behind their back and either display 1 or 2 fingers. 1 team member from the opposite team will stand behind their back to observe the number of fingers displayed. The other team member from the opposite team will stand in front of the person with the hand behind their back and will guess either 1 or 2. If the guess matches the number of fingers then the guessing team selects server or receive, if the guess does not match the non-guessing team gets to select serve or receive. The team not selecting serve/receive gets to select which side of the court they will start on.
5) SIDES: Teams will switch sides of the court at 6 points for regular games and 8 points for medal games.
6) Courts 1-6 will only be used for tournament play. Only players from the assigned divisions may be on courts 1-6. All players wishing to warm up or practice before/after their assigned tournament times must use the upper courts 7-10 for non-tournament play.
Clarifications/decisions rest with the tournament directors: Any clarification of rules or decisions that need to be escalated will be handled by the tournament directors Brenda Boggs and Rodney Humphrey and any resulting clarification/decision will be final.
